I have to give credit to Patrick Fitzgerald and the ladies at Firedoglake for sticking with this, and I offer a mea culpa for thinking the Libby Trial would turn out to be more of a dud. It’s actually looking verrrrrrrrrry interesting.

So I had a conspiracy theory last year (I can’t remember when I posted it) that somewhere along the line, Cheney would walk the plank for Bush, Condi would step out to lame-duck as VP for the rest of Bush’s term, and then the GOP would repackage her as the Great Not-So-White Hope to challenge the Hillary juggernaut.

Given how things are shaking down, from Negroponte being moved from DCI to Deputy Secretary of State, to the inexplicable flap over the fact that Condi is childless, to the fact that the GOP’s pool of candidates is so slim that they may actually give some thought to running Newt Gingrich, and I’m feeling more and more vindicated by the day.

You gotta wonder if Rove took a look at Obama’s entry into the race and said, “Damn, we gotta ramp up Condi or we’re fucked for a generation.”
Of course, the punchline is that the modern GOP IS fucked for a generation, but Rove’s math probably turned out different results.
