In an attempt to disavow claims by Arianna Huffington that John McCain did not vote for George Bush in 2000 and 2004, Mr. Straight Talk gives us
the best set of reasons not to vote for him in 2008:
"I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004," he said in an interview with Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor" that aired on Thursday night.
"And not only that, far more important than a vote, I campaigned everywhere in America for him," McCain said. "I enjoyed it. I campaigned with him. I did everything I could to get him elected and re-elected president."
Jeffrey Kaplan wrote a brilliant article for Orion Magazine documenting the rise of
America's consumption culture, and how we were bamboozled by corporate elites into trading a sustainable future for the current endless cycle of debt and disposable goods we now live in.
Speaking of cycles of debt, my peerless colleague Mark Huffman had a good look last week at what it'll take to
defeat the debt culture. Hint: It involves education, sacrifice, smarts, planning, and no easy solutions.
Of course, you could just choose to blow that laughable "stimulus" check if you haven't already done so. Mark Morford offers
ten easy suggestions to get rid of that money burning a hole in your pocket.
"Iron Man" gives "Speed Racer" a
good old-fashioned passionate ass-whippin' to stay #1 at the box office. As much as I love the Wachowskis, I was never a fan of "Speed Racer" growing up, and definitely not enough to throw away $7-$11 and two hours of my life for it. "Iron Man," by contrast, gets even better on a second viewing.
Ah, it feels good to be back. Did you miss me?
