I am, in fact, in your Wifi, stealing your Internets.

So here I am at the Starfuckers, Inc. in Adams Morgan, posting on my SEXAY new laptop via my Google-to-LJ widget.

Keep in mind, the last time I owned a laptop, the idea of mobile Internet access was about as feasible as--well, fuck, just pick an appropriately unfeasible thing and go with that. :)

So far the laptop seems to be working great. I had no trouble setting up user privileges and basic configurations, and the GNOME desktop layout is quite intuitive. Actually reminds me of a Mac desktop in some ways. It's got Firefox 3 beta 5 (which seems a little wonkier than the previous version), OpenOffice.org for basic documentation needs, and Brasero to burn CDS. I might download the VLC media player as well.

The wireless card works perfectly--I was instantly able to detect a bunch of wireless networks in my area, but most of them were encrypted, and those that were not ran too slow to properly access the Web. At least I know it works, which was the intent.

The laptop itself runs a little hot, and the battery life is for shit, but I don't intend to use this thing for more than an hour at a time a day if I can avoid it. I think for my needs, this will do just fine, but I won't be able to resist the urge to tweak it, I am certain. :)

Heh--I know that this is utterly commonplace to most of you, but I think it's awesome. Maybe I'll try podcasts next. That's me, always a few years behind the curve. ;)

EDIT: Just found an open AC outlet to plug into. LOL INTERNET, indeed. :)

friends, blogosphere, fun, new to do, lj, like whoa, the internets
