among other things. BUT YAY YOU, you have me!!! Ultimately, I'm a fan of a labor of love. Take the suggestions I give you and run with them, or completely discard them; gotta say, I don't really give a shit.
But in case you're one of those people that likes some guidance, follow me under the cut!
Honestly, it's just that I find Dean Winters dead-panning "shaky-shaky" hysterical. Like, no, seriously, I pretty much pee my pants in public when that shit comes on in the movie theater. My friends don't take me out anymore. Chances are that if you volunteered to write this category, you probably already have something in mind to write. Just try to keep the deeply sarcastic, malevolent dead-pan intact if you could, please. MY ONE REQUEST.
Uh, in case you didn't get this from the text of the request, I kind of like Cary Agos. It's a thing. Baby-faced bastards with a mean-streak, who also happen to unfortunately be good people? -- pretty much "be still my heart" from here. I like him as a mirror for Alicia. It works. He picked the side that should, outwardly, be less morally ambiguous, and yet Alicia, more often than not, has the high ground when the two of them bump heads. I also like Kalinda, and Eli, and Wendy, and Will, and hell, everybody on the show, actually. Just, regardless if you turn this into a character piece, or a gen epic that has generous amounts of Mr. Agos in it, my one request here is that you observe the "less is more" rule. Don't be afraid to use more show than tell when it comes to baring the clockwork behind these kids.
Holy shit, OK, seriously, the biggest disappointment I felt with this show was the lack of team shenanigans. It started out freaking AWESOME with the shoot-out in the pilot, and then here and there, the Rachel and Raylan's hat episode as an excellent example. Be serious if you want to be! I have a whole theory on why Rachel is the way she is, Tim's "I forgot my cape" comment and being bitter about his service is awesome, Art being Art, good lord. My one request here is that this really not be about Raylan, even if it's told from his POV. We have the show which already does a pretty good job of being about Raylan.
Some general do's and don'ts:
DO use humor as the filthy weapon it is. If I'm crying because you just killed off my favorite character in some horribly harrowing way and suddenly I'm laughing because yes, you went there, A+. No holds barred.
DO consider plot a friend. I'm not scared of plot, don't be either. PWPs are fine, but don't be afraid to build in your corner of these worlds.
DO have fun writing this. Above all else.
DON'T impregnate the men, unless you're aiming to make me laugh. Seriously, please don't.
DON'T make something "more obvious" for fear that the reader's going to miss it. I like discovering things, I know I'm not the only one, and a little mystery in motivations never hurt anyone's interest level.
DON'T feel obligated to follow anything I've written here, including this sentence.
YAY OK SO HAVE FUN. Lots of fun. Because apparently part of agreeing to these Yuletide shenanigans is recoding "stress" as "fun." FUN TIME. (no but seriously, have fun, I know I plan to enjoy myself writing)
WOO HOO
