My ears are ringing; and this is a good thing. The last few days have been really great in some key respects.
As I mentioned the other day, Liverpool beat Manchester United and New Zealand beat Australia. These are both great results and make me truly happy. The Liverpool game was great. The atmosphere at the Brewhouse was awesome - there was singing, and shouting, and drinking, and cheering, and booing. Liverpool started poorly, but then slowly became dominant and ultimately outplayed United. It was lovely.
Similarly in the rugby, NZ got off to a poor start, but came back and beat the Aussies down.
On Sunday, I did not have a hangover. I did some yard work and found more black widows. It seems my back yard is a popular place for widows. Most of the ones I've encountered have been quite small, but I ran into a rather big one under a brick yesterday. I'm still deciding what to do with the back yard, as it's pretty much just clay, and can only support weeds. We'll see.
I went grocery shopping in the afternoon and bought a fuck-ton of food. That's the problem with grocery shopping before having lunch. I had all these great ideas while at the supermarket; hopefully more than one inspired meal will actually get made.
Because one inspired meal did get made. Last night I made steak, shrimp and vegetable skewers. I marinated the steak and shrimp in a concoction of olive oil, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice, chopped fresh parsley, dry thyme, and chopped fresh cilantro. The vegetables were zucchini, onions, green peppers and mushrooms. Then onto the grill. These were served with wild mushroom couscous and a salad of spinach, carrots, radishes, spring onions, celery, and alfalfa sprouts.
Yep, a very tasty meal, and my dinner guests (Tim, Kris, Lynne) all enjoyed it too. I love my grill. And charcoal is the only way to go.
Work today was somewhat annoying, but I got the tasks done that I wanted to get done. Then a tasty dinner with Lynne at the Thai and sushi place in Little Five Points before the Mogwai show.
Wow. Let me just say, wow. Granted it wasn't as loud as I was expecting (hoping), but it was still very loud. And also very soft and delicate at the appropriate times. Absolutely brilliant. That's the sort of show that just leaves me with a happy smile on my face; a level of contentment that is sometimes difficult to achieve.
So, I end this day on a happy note. I have poured myself a night cap and will hit the sack very soon.
