I heard a few hours ago that Patrick McGoohan had passed away at the age of 80. The Prisoner is one of those shows I've always wanted to see, but have never had the opportunity - I've never heard of it being aired on TV (I'm sure it has been, I've just never heard about it), and the DVD set is awfully expensive. I wonder how he felt about the upcoming remake of the show.
And just now, I got the news that Ricardo Montalban has passed away at 88. (I had no idea he was that old... I figured he was around 75. He looked damned good for a man in his mid 40s during "Space Seed", not to mention being in his early 60s at the time of "Wrath Of Khan".) He was someone I'd always wanted to meet, not only because of his larger-than-life portrayal of Khan, but because I grew up watching "Fantasy Island". Alas, his failing health over the past few years meant that he wasn't accepting invitations to conventions (though I only ever heard of him being at one or two, anyway).
I always found it amusing that in one review of TWOK, the critic wrote that Montalban was "hilariously miscast as Khan". Guess that critic never watched TOS...
Rest in peace, gentlemen.
