Muuuuuch better - I can see now, thanks to
travellingone's reminder last night that Canadian Tire sells halogen light bulbs. There's even a CT about a ten-minute walk south of where I work, so I picked up two this evening. No more stumbling around in the dark. No doubt, when the one currently in the lamp burns out, however, I'll forget that I bought two, or forget where I stashed the second one. (You can all feel free to remind me that it's in the left-most drawer in the kitchen, if I should post in six months or so about stumbling around in the dark again.)
And tonight featured the return of the DVD Monster, I think... I made it into Future Shop and HMV tonight and picked up a bunch of stuff that I saw last weekend when I was up at Yorkdale to get my hair cut, but hadn't bought because I didn't manage to make it back to the store before it closed. Tonight's haul:
- Battlestar Galactica, season 2 - I know I swore I wouldn't buy it in two separate box sets, but Future Shop had them bundled together for $70, which is probably what the full season would go for anyway
- The Practice, season 1 - how come I didn't know this was coming out?
- The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert (the "Special Frills" edition)
- The Princess Bride (the "Dread Pirate Roberts" edition, which is exactly the same as the "Buttercup" edition except for a booklet that I wasn't paying an extra $10 for)
- The Producers - the film of the musical (I know the reviews all said it sucked, but hey, it has Matthew Broderick and John Barrowman, so I had to have it)
- Dr. Strangelove - I didn't have an overwhelming need for this, but since it was on the "2 for $30" shelf and I didn't see anything else there I particularly wanted, I figured why not? It's a good movie.
- Light At The End Of The World (the new Erasure album)
- Release The Stars (the new Rufus Wainwright album)
Yes, I probably do have more money than brains. (That's because the zombies got my brains the other day, no doubt.)
As a result of all this, I didn't get home until about 8:45. I was kicking myself because I'd forgotten that CBS was airing Bob Barker's final The Price Is Right episode, before he goes off into retirement, tonight. I did catch the end, though, and I was disappointed that he didn't say much beyond his usual "have your pets spayed or neutered" schtick. However, they segued directly into the Daytime Emmy Awards, so I watched him make his entrance with three of the show's models hanging off him. (Dirty old man. :) )
I continued to watch until he won the inevitable Emmy for Best Game Show Host. (Was there any doubt? Though I did like his acceptance speech, in which he thanked the academy for taking pity on an old man without a job...) In the meantime, I was surprised that Genie Francis had never won before this year. I was also surprised when she thanked Tony Geary and referred to him as her "partner". What, are she and Jonathan Frakes having problems? I know what she meant by "partner" in that context, but it struck me as odd that she didn't mention him when she mentioned the rest of her family.
I should probably work on memorizing my lines for tomorrow's filming. (I'm being good and not going out tonight. :) ) I've been working on it a little during my commute home for the past few days. Most of the scenes aren't too tough, but there are one or two that I'm having a little trouble with. Fortunately I have the file open here on my computer, so I can alternate between reading my friendslist and running lines. :)
