Rogers (my cable and Internet provider) went down around 1 AM, and only came back up about half an hour ago. Damn it. Last night, I was actually able to go to bed around 4:30, and now, here it is, about that time again, and I haven't gotten anywhere close to getting my usual nightly online reading done. I was able to get some offline TT work done, ( Read more... )

I just gave in and signed up for DSL service, which came on Monday. Yay, I can now browse LJ in high speed! Well, I had cable before, with Comcast, but it was at dial-up speed!

I know Drew switched from Rogers to DSL a while ago too. One issue was that they'd force him to add the "Rogers" to the "almost-painless" e-mail address that he'd had for years. Another was that the cable kept going down anyway. I also know he had troubles when he hooked up the DSL, in that they already had split the phone lines in the home for something else. But he got it working.

Meanwhile, I'm happy with the AT&T/ Ameritech/ SBC/ Yahoo (what the hell is it called this month???) DSL I got. I can actually apply for jobs now without timing out before I'm done! Yay! Oh, and Manulife has a branch in Lombard, IL, about 20 miles from me. They had an opening for Admin. Asst. I wonder if the position is still open (said it would be posted for a month). And I spotted in Hoffman Estates (maybe 10 miles from me) a data entry/ customer service position where they want bilingual French. Eh? In Chicago? Yep, speaking to French customers in Canada, over the phone, and placing orders. Something about that reminds me of a skit by The Radio Free Vestibules, "Looking for a job in Quebec".

Considering I still don't have a job, I guess I can forget about Ad Astra, Toronto Trek, Filk Ontario, etc. :( But at least Rob Sawyer is heading my way again for To Be Continued in May. It's just not the same, damnit. :( I do miss Toronto!
