Made my way up to the Dealers' Room, re-affixed the Gaylaxicon banner to the wall (I must remember to buy pins, because the vinyl is too heavy to be held up by duct tape - though the long ( Read more... )

The part about "trying to do too much himself", probably came from the fact that he didn't care to take advice of any kind and turned away good, experienced help.

A lot of people's problems with the con was that the organizer seemed to have the idea that anime fans were cash cows and he didn't have to do anything or provide anything and they'd show up. I've never had it confirmed, but I believe it was a for profit con. I'm sure he's not a bad guy, and there's nothing wrong with trying to make an honest buck...but things seemed to have gone pretty sour and a lot of people got screwed over.

Derwin has posted his reasons for quitting, and many of the other guests and dealers have shared their horror stories. It's all on the Cosplay.com forums.

I heard about Derwin leaving (left a huge message on the Cosplay.com fourms). And the fact the con shut-down.

I mean, I expect pretty bad things for the con, I'm not going to lie. (I mean really, it wasn't too organized, and it really wasn't well planned/advertised/attended.) But I didn't expect it to be closed down. That was a suprising bit of news to find in my inbox the evening.
