(no subject)

And then I complained about a work of fanfiction I read not to long ago.

I stumbled across a Supernatural fic, one where Dean was FtM and when he died and was brought back to life, he was completely male.  It sounded good, but in general, I am very cautious of these kinds of fic.  Obviously, it's a personal subject to me and it hits home and makes me more picky than I already am concerning what I read.

The first thing that absolutely bothered the SHIT out of me was the mention of Dean bound his chest.  With ace bandages.  I'm not going to say that I have not done it, because sometimes you have to use what you have, but it's always the LAST resort.  The most absolute last resort; when I want to die and rip my chest off is when I use bandages.

The thing about ace bandages, is that they are dsigned to tighten and compress swelling.  And wow, hey, that almost sounds like a great idea.  Bandages constrict and due to their design can cut off the amount of oxygen to the lungs and cause rib bruising and bruising in general and god awful health problems.  Dean being the active guy that he is, would have realzed that by using those bandages, he would not be as atheltic and would cause more harm to himself.  His father, his brother would not even allow it.

It's one of those things that I did not agree with and kind of twitched and scrolled past it quickly.  Because it's dangerous.  Really, really dangerous.

When I got to the part that Dean coms back after digging his way out of the coffin... I had to stop.  I do not believe that Dean would not have noticed that he suddenly had a penis, and would be wondering why his pants wuld be baggier.  People know their bodies, and when something changes drastically in the body, the owner will ultimately realize what it is.

Even if that wasn't a problem, the phrase "he was fully male now" is.  In a story where a character is trans, it's important to state the key fact; how comfortable they are in their own body.  Even then, there are plenty of guys who have only done top surgery, and felt themselves to be completely male.

It just...rubbed me the wrong way, and I had to stop reading it.  I don't mean to make a big deal out of it, but I've really only ever read one story that fit okay with me, even with the "100 % male" phrase, because it fit the character, it fit how he was in that story.
