It's been a good Mother's Day...as Mother's Day goes. Yesterday Dave and I went out for dinner and watched the Cavs games (ie. sports bar!), when I got home, Sam had all the kids working and cleaning house. I was floored. Sarah cleaned the floors, Jackie did laundry and Luke even cleaned my car. Dave wonders if having Samantha with us is therapy for us or for her. Well, if we all benefit, you can't beat that. Samantha even did the graphics for services this week. She left a card for me on the table "To My Surrogate Mother" and a great (humorous) note inside. I can't wait to see what she does for Dave on father's day! I'm sure it will be completely off the wall. We couldn't have asked for a better "daughter". I'm really going to be broken hearted when she leaves. It must be hell on Pam and Dan not having her with them, Dave knows all about that for sure, but we're supportive of parental rights and responsibilities and keep them in the loop, unlike some people. Dave gave me a gazebo for the patio, nothing like what we had in Carleton, but it's really nice and fits on the patio like it was designed for it. I've been veg-ing all day, pretty much. And am starting to get a little antsy, need to move around. The weather is still crappy, but at least we got the lawn mowed.
Church was really sad this morning. Yet another child from town has been diagnosed with cancer, this time, a malignant tumor was found in her 8 year old brain. Poor baby. Poor mom. It happened to the Brown family, Alexa is the little girl's name and she's in ICU at St. Vincent's after undergoing surgery to remove the tumor. They think they got all of it, but still, there's a long road ahead for them. That's 4 children in 6 months. Three brain tumors, one with leukemia. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on around here. As a mom, between me and the rest of the world, I'm scared to death. I mean, what's causing this. Clyde is a very small town...frightening. The county health department was investigating after Tyler Jo's diagnosis in February, now this. And a damn bear attack killing Sue Cenkus' daughter too. How much heartache can one community handle?
