Seattle Center will host a celebration of gay pride on June 24 after all, a parade organizer confirmed Wednesday morning.

Local event planner Egan Orion has reserved the center's Fisher Pavilion for a six-hour after party following the downtown parade, which will culminate at the center.

A rally had been planned at Seattle Center before, but parade organizers Seattle Out and Proud canceled those plans weeks ago because of more than $100,000 in debt accrued from a weekendlong celebration at the center last year.

"If anyone can pull it off, Egan can," Seattle Out and Proud spokesman Troy Campbell said.

The celebration, which Orion is calling "PrideFest," will be much smaller than last year's event. The official boundaries will be set at the edge of the lawn around the pavilion.

"His space is limited to that area, but he'll do the most with it that he can," Campbell said.

The PrideFest celebrations will include a beer garden, a DJ and other musical performers, Campbell added.

On June 24, the Seattle Pride parade will proceed to the center along Fourth Avenue, starting at 11 a.m. PrideFest will run from noon to 6 p.m., Campbell said.

The day before, a political march along the traditional Broadway route will kick off the celebration, followed by a rally at Volunteer Park.
