Woo hoo! Another update.

Chapter Nine: Dark Clouds over Proceedings

-=Day 3=-
12:30 AM

Paula stood near the window of the living room in her apartment. She was holding a glass, filled with wine. She looked out as the snow fall softly and quietly down past her window. She raised her glass and took a sip of her drink but still kept quiet as she watched. She seemed almost mesmerized by the light storm that had befallen Melrose. Sam came from behind her, almost holding a glass of wine and walked up next to her. She glanced over him quickly, slightly scared at his quietness of “sneaking up” on her. He caught her gaze and smiled.

“Enjoying the snow?” He asked, taking a sip from his glass.

“I’m not even really watching it. I’m just thinking.” She responded.

“Ohh, I see. Is one of those things Haley?” He asked, half-joking.

“Yeah, exciting isn’t it?” She said, a smile appearing on her face.

“Yeah, it is. I’m glad for her.” He said, cheeringly.

They both fell silent as they both looked outside the window. The snow hadn’t slowed down but it didn’t seem to be speeding up either. It was calm and relaxing to watch.

“Why did it have to be today though?” Paula asked quietly. Sam turned to her. “Why does such good news have to be over-looked by something horrible happening?”

Sam’s eyes wandered, looking for an answer. But he couldn’t come up with any.

“I’m scared, Sam. Revere isn’t far from here. What if we’re attacked next? What if whatever attacked comes here?” She asked, fearfully.

“I don’t know, Paula. I really don’t know. I guess all we can do is try and stay calm and not freak out about it.” He responded.

“That’s a lot easier to say than to do.” She said, looking back outside.

They both stood in silence, Paula staring out the window and Sam still staring at her. Sam turned his head and looked out the window. Then he finally spoke.

“Have you ever gotten a weird feeling…like something bad is coming?” Sam asked, out of the nowhere.

Paula turned her attention to him slowly. He took a sip of his wine and then turned his eyes on hers. “Why do you ask?” She asked.

“I had that feeling five years ago, a day before I met you guys. I had a feeling that there was going to be a change in everything I had known. And there was, there was a huge change.” He explained.

“I see. And why are you bringing that up now?” She asked, stirring the wine with her finger.

“I had that feeling earlier today, when I stepped outside of Liza’s apartment.” He said. The chilling and matter-of-fact way he said it sent a shiver down Paula’s spine. She looked up at him, worry filling her eyes.

“What are you saying, Sam?” She asked him.

He turned to her slowly. She could see that there was worry and fear in his eyes as well. “I’m saying, I feel like something is going to change again. And not for the best.”

Suddenly, Natalie’s bedroom door burst open. Sam and Paula both jumped and turned quickly on the now entering Natalie. Her hair was down and she was wearing a large red t-shirt. She had her cell phone in her right hand. She looked flustered and extremely scared.

“CJ and Jen are in the hospital. They’ve been attacked.”
