Realistically, nothing could have saved the Empire from the pending doom that now swirled and permeated in the great capital that once was a city of beauty and industrial prowess. The tall obsidian structure of what once was the Combine's political front was now a smouldering mass of rubble and viscera.
The aftermath of the battle for Antioch left the Dominion armies scattered and powerless to defend from the Enclave's onslaught. In the hasty retreat from the battle, the armies each parted in three separate ways. Lord General Metzger's army, the strongest and most highly trained were forced to the northwest toward Freedom, while Paladin Knight Holt's army, (which took the brunt of the assault on Antioch and were weakened the most) was forced due west into the unforgiving wasteland. And finally Paladin Knight Granduer's army was actually routed east toward the enemies reinforcements.
But even though the Dominion forces retreated, the Enclave gave no chase. Once they held the capital of Antioch, they simply stopped progressing, even though not even half of the Empire had been conquered. Many thought and even to this day believe that they had no idea of the resistance of the Dominion armies and their capabilities, for if they did, they would have hunted and exterminated the remaining men as they fled from the might of them.
