The beginning of the war was exquisite. He was mad with the perfection of it, with winning. No Winchester, not even his, could stop it.
So when the bullet finally hit, the reality of his death didn’t disturb as much as knowing it wasn’t supposed to be like this, that he’d never get to see the beautiful end result; his Sammy blossomed properly.
