Aha! Concrete proof that America's media is in fact, stupid. Ok, so there were plenty of examples before now, but calling Toronto the "Great White North"?
Check it out...
http://people.aol.com/people/gallery/0,26335,1564308_4,00.html I believe wintertime in Alaska could be called the Great White North, or possibly the North Pole. Not so much Toronto. Idiots! It's no wonder Americans are completely ignorant to most things Canadian...
This reminds me of all the questions that I was asked about Canada when I was in Alaska.
"Do they have coke in Toronto?" (they meant the drink!)
"Do they have kindergarten in Canada?" (Nope...with millions of children in our country, we've never considered schooling for our 4 and 5 year-olds)
"Is it always cold there?" (which ultimately, is hilarious because I was IN Alaska, and they're the ones who are cold for 8-9 months out of the year)
I'm excited for a new adventure...I'm applying to volunteer with Unicef in the new year! I figure this will have me on the inside for trips to Africa and such. I thought about spending some time with World Vision, but until I know more about the organization, I'm sticking with Unicef. From what I know, World Vision has a huge Christian influence, and I'm not ok with working with people who are preaching Christian values as they hand out food and water in Africa. Right...because teaching about God to those who are dying for reasons beyond their control is more important than finding a cure for AIDS, obviously.
Aw, this entry makes me sound like I'm in a bad mood. I'm not!!! I've just been doing some thinking about things and making some decisions about where I want to spend my time and money.
