[one of the good memories]
The boy stood in the hallway, his forehead resting against his locker and his eyes closed. Two hours into the school day, and his head was pounding. He wanted nothing more than to leave here, but didn't feel up to risking the wrath of his guardian if he was caught skipping again.
He started as the book he held was suddenly knocked from his hand. He turned, to find himself face to face with the jock who constantly harassed him. "Hello faget," the jock greeted. He tried to push by the bigger boy but the jock placed a hand on his chest and shoved him back against the locker.
The jocked glanced over his shoulder as a voice behind him asked suddenly, "Why don't you leave him alone?" The boy glanced past the jock as the football player released him; his eyes met the blue gaze of the person who had defended him in the locker room several days prior.
"What the phuck do you care?" the jock's question was directed at the boy's protector. The blonde -easily the jock's equal in size and weight- took a step closer and retorted, "I just do. Leave him alone." The two stared at each other for a long moment, then the jock smirked and shrugged and said, "Pretty boy's not worth the effort." He pushed past the blonde and strode down the hallway, whistling.
The boy dropped his eyes as the blonde's blue gaze fell on him. The older boy bent down and picked up his book, then offered it to him. "You alright?" the soft spoken question made him raise his own dark gaze. He nodded yes as he took the book and muttered, "Thanks.." The assessing blue gaze skimmed over him, then the blonde replied, "You're welcome." He winked at the boy, then turned and made his way down the hall. The boy watched him go, regretting not saying more. Not that it would matter if he had. Still..
For the remainder of the day, he couldn't shake those blue eyes from his thoughts.
