Charlie opened the door of the sushi bar for his mother, he was on a particularly important company dinner so Adia had tagged along. If they succeeded and got this job it would bring in enough money to give everyone significant summer bonuses. Charlie wasn't nervous, he was well versed in the ways and means of this job, this company was just like every other. There was just a bit more riding on it. Regardless, he wasn't one for showing when he was nervous so he swallowed down the pressure, put a grin on his face and bought the first round of drinks.
"What was your name again?" The head honcho asked my mother.
"Adia Collins, I am the founder of the--"
The man cut her off, holding up his hand. "Adia? Like the song? Love that song. My mother used to play it all the time. How does it go again? We are born..."
"Innoceeeent. Believe me Adia, we are still, innoceeent!" Charlie helped the man remember the song, a few more people at the table joined in as well. Adia just grinned. Charlie knew how much she hated when people sang the song to her, he could tell from her eyes that she was not amused. It made him nearly choke into his drink to keep from laughing.

The rest of the dinner went very well, the company needed time to think it over but it was basically a done deal. Charlie used his car phone to call his mother on the way home.
"Adiaaaa! We are born innoooooceeeeeent!!" Charlie yelled into the phone as she answered.
"Very funny. I hope you crash."
"Harsh Mother," He laughed. "You are the one that gave birth to me, you brought this on yourself. "
"I still don't know why I agreed to that. You are supposed to be defiant to Foz, not me."
"I don't play favorites, you should know that. It would just be rude."
"I have something to tell you...I always loved Max more than you."
"Alright, well I have to go cry now. I'll talk to you tomorrow." A pause. "Hey mom?"
"Yeah Kid?"
"We did it." Charlie smiled to himself as he parked in front of his house.
"I'm aware," She answered but Charlie could hear the pride in her voice. "Next time, let's have less singing. You sounded worse than Foz."
