Last night I found out that I have the opportunity to get paid well to travel the world for the next year and a half. Unfortunately, I have to decline. My cousin and good friend, Ryan, was offered a job to be on the road crew for Carrot Top's world tour starting in May. He was also asked to find a friend who could work on the crew as well.
So yeah, it's Carrot Top... but it's also the opportunity of a lifetime for Ryan. He's going to get paid to fly all over the world-- they cover all travel and accommodations, too.
There's nothing I'd rather do than travel the world with Ryan for a year and a half. But, I can't do it. It may be a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I also have a once in a lifetime opportunity here at home (with the benefit of it being long-term) with my work. If I were to just up and take off on my boss, I'd miss out on being made partner of the company I work for. If I was still at my old job, I'd do it no questions asked. Sucks, but I have to be smart and think of the long term. Maybe after I'm partner for a while, I'll be able to just take off for a couple months and travel on my own terms.
