I'm getting promoted and moving to a wilderness park. No more of this regional park bullshit of checking bounce house permits for birthday parties. It's real ranger work for me from now on- invasive plant control, interpretive programs, animal tracking and the like. Only downside is the commute is going to be almost 27 miles each way. I'll be at Riley park near Coto de Caza. If I end up buying a place in Aliso Viejo I'll be able to ride my bike to work, so it might all work out.
All is good with the girlfriend. It'll be 6 months soon enough. We went to Joshua Tree recently for a tracking class. Camped out a few night prior so we'd have time to explore:
Here's what we saw:
Lots of plants in bloom
Beavertail cactus
The longest gopher snake I'd ever seen.
Some dude humping a rock.
Horned toad
A gnarly spider that must have spent the night with us. This guy was more than an inch in diameter. We found him in the tent in the morning.
Desert sunset
I had a park ranger conference up at lake tahoe in late march. Didn't have much time to explore the area due to all the sessions, but I snapped a few shots anyway:
My brother has been tearing it up in the Big West conference this year. UCSB is in 2nd place currently but still have to play UCI, Long Beach state and CSUF. So far Brian is near the top of the league in 4-5 different categories. He hit a game winning grand slam last week too. He is most likely going to get drafted this year. Probably somewhere in the 6-8th round. He's had quite a few teams contact him and 2 agents so far. This next month is when things get really busy in preparation for the draft. I'm super proud of him if you can't tell. I really think he can make it to the big leagues... not as a superstar, but as a great defensive player with so-so hitting and above average speed.
I've been going up to games and riding on the way back. Here's Upper Las Virgenes Canyon from a couple weeks ago:
I can't wait until it gets hot and the water warms up. Summer can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned.
