The park I work at is one of the closest county parks to Featherly park in Yorba Linda where the fire was yesterday, I got called out to it about halfway through my shift. I don't have my fie gear yet so I just got to drive around telling people to evacuate from the Canyon RV park and then directing traffic. The fire came about 100 yeards from where I was.
I've seen fires on the news a lot, but it's a whole different thing up close, so wildly unpredictable. Firefighters may have a chill job, but when they respond to a fire, they definately earn their pay. Probably about 30 engines/water trucks showed up.
I snapped a few shots with my phone when I had a spare minute. These are looking towards the bridge on Gypsum Canyon Road where all the media was shooting their footage and the fire eventually passed under and towards the RV park.
Here the fire is still east of Gypsum Canyon. It's kind of pixilated, but you can kind of make out the News vans on the bridge.
In this one, it has just passed under the bridge and is burning towards the RV park, you can see the big wooden sign in front of the smoke. Thankfully, it narrowly avoided the park and everyone was ok. Lots of water/flame retardant drops from helicopter and even a few really low plane flyovers.
Crazy day.
