I've just finished watching the series in its entirety and I wrote a quick review and put it in my LJ. That post is locked, but in the interest of generating a little discussion (or something) I'll repost it here (with some editing):

In the commentary, Greenwalt et. al. talk about how the major dramatic tension from the whole series was going to be making the viewer ask "How real are his emotions?"

I love the cracks in the facade. And they are so slight.

For starters, he's more attached to people than you think he is. He seems genuinely attached to Gail and wants to see her promoted Also, twice he messes up something on his person, like his tie, or his collar, so that Gail can fix it for him--yes, it's very good to get her feeling maternal and/or girlfriendly about him, good for her loyalty, but at some point his motive doesn't matter--he's doing things to make her feel good

And this is what you have to *love* about someone who may or may not be a sociopath. Yes, he is doing it to make her feel good but he gets a positive out of making her feel good so is he being selfless or self-serving? It's difficult to tell. Certainly we had a lot of debate in Oz fandom about Keller's apparently selfless acts (see, you really need to watch it *g*).

Bobby? I'd love to hear some theories.I'd say a cute little girl with blonde (or red) hair that figured out from a *way* too early age that she could use her sexuality to get what she wanted. There's an element of abuse there - she's certainly not been 'protected' by a loving and caring family, but she doesn't appear to be as damaged as Profit either.

The commentaries are worth it. At least, I think so. They really give insight into the show, how to view Profit, and it's joyful to hear just how much a labour of love this show was to the creators. This show's commentary is one of my favorites of all show commentaries ever

Is one of these commentaries on the pilot? Because that's two hours so that would be sort of like having five commentaries(?).

I actually think Profit is more of a Ryan O'Reily type than a Keller type.

But yes, I just watched for the first time last weekend and I was totally just watching for Adrian (who was amazing and brilliant and hilarious and also so very, very hot) but I was very surprised by how much I started to like the supporting charactesr.

Gail was awesome. Her expressions continously cracked me up and I just loved her relationship with Profit. And I also loved Bobbi so very, very much and I loved her relationship with Profit too. I was also surprised by how much I like Chaz by the end, he started out pretty boring, but he was cracking me up in the last several episodes.

There's just so much genius in this show that I can't imagine ever getting bored watching and even if for some reason, I got bored with the plots, I could just stare at Adrian and be happy for a very long time.

And yay for posting this! I've been babbling on about Profit since the weekend, so it's good to have an outlet.

I actually think Profit is more of a Ryan O'Reily type than a Keller type. Yes, I can see elements of O'Reily in Profit - the calculating, the focus on long term outcomes. But to be clear, I was not saying 'Profit is like Keller' but rather the soicopathic characteristics of Profit are reminiscent of Keller's sociopathic characteristic. On the one hand they play type A sociopaths: remorseless, unsympathetic, self involved, and lacking in compassion. On the other hand they are both outside this mould in that they both 'appear' to care (and maybe they *do* care - it's never quite clear) which is not typical sociopath behaviour at all. It's this fuzzy area that connects them

Yes! And it's one the reason's I'm saddest it got cancelled so fast (besides the obvious one of no more naked Adrian). I'm so curious about where they were headed with Gail and how her relationship with Profit would have developed.

I'm not sure if your an Angel fan or not, but something about the last few episodes of Profit made me think that they were eventually going to move her in a Lilah like direction.

I'm another person who watched the show just for Adrian, and ended up getting completely down with the supporting characters, particularl Chaz Gracen. What a turnaround THAT guy did!

Also, it was fascinating how Bobby ended up with her own separate storyline that was then recomined with Profit's... totally mesmerizing TV. I am going to buy the DVD just so I can get other folks into it, because they really deserve to see it (especially my friends who love DEXTER). I swear I had a winter of sociopathic anti-heroes who I fell in love with!

He's an awesome actor. He was Holtz in Angel - I didn't pick it at first but when someone mentioned it to me I was like, of course! That voice!

And I really should watch Dexter - I've downloaded a few eps. I think I'd like it. I seems I have a thing about sociopaths.
