Back in my days as part of the SMU student body, I was always amazed by the number of people who would wait with bated breath, counting down the seconds until the doors to the Imaginus poster sale would open. Finally, a second Scarface poster for the back of the kitchen door! I'm still trying to get my hands on a copy of that poster with Snoop Dogg and Tupac standing TOGETHER. Talk about #rare!
I used to endlessly mock the poster sale, so much so that two of my friends thought it would be really hilarious to pool their money and buy me a mounted poster for my wall. The bought it at lunch time with the theory that I would die of embarrassment before carrying it around to all of my afternoon classes.
Unfortunately for them, I didn't die. If anything, that embarrassment just brought me and my poster closer together. We braved it together, and by the end of the day I had so much respect for this poster that I brought it home, set it in my bathroom, and it's been there ever since.
I should confess that I also secretly adored this photo from the moment that I saw it. It combines my love of miniatures with my love of kittens in the best way possible....two cats smoking ciggys in the water closet. Google it. 'Cats smoking in the bathroom'. Priceless.
Over the years, this poster has begun to eat away at me. It all started with a cryptic post-it note speech bubble attached to each cat; one saying 'I'm dead' and the other saying 'Me too'. I started to worry that maybe these cats looking for a relaxing cigarette were actually looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. How could I feel so strongly about a photo of two taxidermy kittens?
I've carried these pangs of guilt for years and years, until tonight. On a whim, I did a little research into the photo, and guess what? IT ISN'T CRUEL AT ALL! It's basically one big cute cat party that took place in the 80s, where cats just hung out playing and then for ten minutes a day, they'd get posed in little cat-sized sweaters and hair-band clothes, and get their photos taken. I mean, it's actually kind of adorable.

Thank you, small miracles. I have been extremely grumpy tonight and this little bit of info has suddenly made my night worthwhile.
