Do they have some specific purpose? Mine's been... helping me find food in an offhanded way, but that's about it.

I believe that they can be used in battle as well - although I haven't had a chance to test that, just yet.

Not exactly. Although I have heard that this is actually one of the more peaceful times the city has seen.
