I have quickly realized that the quickest way for me to hate a tv show is to become involved in its' respective fandom. The Vampire Diaries fandom is one of the more hypocritical fandoms I've come across in a long ass time. Especially in regards to the characters of Damon and Bonnie. Damon can do whatever he wants and people will dote on him and defend him until their last breath. For instance, in tonight's episode, Damon forced a kiss on Elena and didn't stop when she repeatedly told him to stop. And, when Elena told him Stefan would always be the one for her, Damon got mad and snapped her brother's neck. Now, how did a majority of fandom react to this? "Aw, poor Damon, he got rejected by both Katherine and Elena in one episode."
Now, last season, Damon and Stefan were partially responsible for the death of Bonnie's grandmother(her name is escaping me at the moment) and understandably, Bonnie was devastated by it. That devastation manifested itself into feelings of revenge against the vampires. And, she did some not so nice things to Damon(letting him believe she undid a spell when she really did not) and yet SHE WAS THE BITCH FOR HURTING PRECIOUS DAMON'S FEELINGS. Damon, a guy who snapped her(Bonnie's) neck earlier in the season, a guy who basically mind raped Caroline for multiple episodes, a guy who murdered plenty of innocent people throughout the course of S1 and yet, SHE was the bad guy who tried to stop him? Bonnie had a motive -- a pretty good motive for wanting Damon to be put down. Some people even suggested she was being disloyal to Elena for going after the vampires. I CAN'T.
I'm not trying to say people don't have legitimate reasons to dislike Bonnie. It's just that Damon can do whatever bad things he wants with absolutely no motivation whatsoever for it and be coddled while Bonnie(who actually does have motivations for her actions) will be called a bitch and absolutely useless. SORRY IF THIS MADE NO SENSE AT ALL. It's late, I'm tired and really annoyed.
Maybe it is better to watch a show when it is already off the air. Case in point, I started watching Alias a few days ago online and I'm already on S2. LOVING IT. No hypocritical fandom opinions, no shipper BS, no waiting a week for the next episode! Did fandom like Sydney? Yes or no to Vaughn/Sydney? For some reason, I think the fandom loved Sark. AS DO I.
