The heart is something we can't control. We either choose to follow or be left on our own.

Okay, so I never update, like, ever. Not with anything pertinent, anyway. So here is an entry about things that are actually going on.

I defy anyone at this point to tell me that October isn't cursed for me, and that it lifts as soon as it's over. About 4 days or so before the end of the month, my computer got a line of stuck pixels going down the right side of the screen. I tried to fix them, but to no avail, and came to terms with the fact that I'd probably have a green line going down my screen until I got a new computer in, like...5 years. Then on October 31, at 11:45...the line started flickering. By midnight, the official beginning of November, it was gone. Coincidence? No, I think not.

I went up to Annapolis last night and stopped in Toys R Us, and found out that the McFarlane NFL 3-Packs had been released, and I didn't know it. This is a good thing. The bad thing is, they were all sold out of the Steelers. Once those things are gone, they're gone. Come on, people, have you NOT watched them play football this year? We fucking suck. The least you could do is let me salvage the season with three plastic men that stand 6" tall. Yes, my happiness is more important than your's. Anyway, I had to come home and order them on Ebay. I sniped an auction and beat the high bidder by $0.57, and got the set for just about $45. That's $15 more than in the store, but what're ya gonna do, right? I'm not really looking forward to February when the Yankees figures come out, and there's another three-pack, Robinson Cano, Joe Dimaggio, Roger Maris (my favorite Yankee), and three-inch versions of Giambi and Jeter. One might say, "Donnie, you don't NEED to buy all those." And then I might say, "Get bent, assclown". Sometimes I'm belligerent.

I've been playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance for about 2 weeks straight now, and it might very well be my favorite game ever. I've already beaten it once, and now I'm going back through it on hard, using a team that generally rotates between Spider-Woman, Nick Fury, Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Deadpool, Blade, Ghost Rider, Captain America, and Black Panther. Panther definitely sucks, but I didn't use him my first game, and I actually wanted to see what he did. And what does he do? He sucks, that's what he does. You can sit on the bench, T'Challa. In fact, go sit in the back of the bus. Silver Surfer and Spider-Woman, however, are all kinds of awesome.

I'm looking forward to Tuesday, not only because it's the last day that they'll be running these ever-loving election commercials, but also because Guitar Hero II comes out. I played the demo in GameStop last night, and was pleased with what I saw so far. My only "problem" is that, while it's really enjoyable to play...it's just not very hard. Well, aside from the three note chords that don't use three buttons that are all right next to each other. My hands are too tiny to pull those off effectively just yet. Perhaps I'm just really good at the game. That's what the two skater-punks in the store said. I was playing "War Pigs" on hard, and they said something along the lines of "Are you one of those guys who's, like...super good at this game or something?", to which I modestly said, "Uh...well...I'm pretty good, I guess, but I'm not like those kids on the internet or anything". I then proceeded to nail one of the solos in the song, and the kids proclaimed that I was, in fact, quite good at the game. I can 5-star all but 7 or so songs on hard, and I can't do ANY of the last 10 songs on expert, but that's apparently abnormal or something.

Speaking of guitars...

For the past few months, I've been playing again, and not just for fun. Ryan (of Remember Daylight...check them out on Myspace, they're an excellent band) and I have been practicing every Wednesday, and things are starting to sound REALLY good. We've only really worked on four songs (For those of you familiar with my library, "Baleeted", "An Acronym For Selfishness and Stupidity", "Beach Towns", and "Famous Blue Raincoat"), but they're all pretty solid at this point. Ryan, who's a natural guitarist, has switched over to drums for this project, and for someone who's only been playing for a few months, he's VERY solid, approaching very good. He's also contributed lead parts for the songs I'd already written, which makes me a happy panda, because, quite frankly, I couldn't write leads if my life depended on it. My hands have always been too small to do anything worthwhile on the guitar outside of bar chords, so it's really a small blessing that I enjoy playing pseudo pop punk as much as I do. Anyway, the songs are filling out well, and we're in the process of recording things without drums (hahaha...Flashbacks!), partly for practice purposes, but also because I changed lyrics in Acronym and Beach Towns, and I can only ever remember the original versions I already have recorded, so being able to listen to the "new" versions will help with that a great deal. Message me sometime next week if you're interested in checking out whatever we have done. We're going to put up ads for another guitarist and a bassist, and we'll see what happens. I don't expect to get signed or anything, but I miss playing live, and I miss recording. Plus, I have that whole life goal of recording a record, and I have yet to do that one PROPERLY.

I think that might be all for now.
