A Wee Bit More...

Somehow I got the bastard scanner to work. I usually don't know how I do these things. I just keep screwin' around till something happens. Anyways...Somethin' just wasn't sittin' well with me on this pic, so I reworked some things. I lightened her tones a bit to make her a bit more to the mood that I intended. I guess kinda' dark and mysterious ( Read more... )

My friend, I love this painting. Hell, I love all the paintings I've gotten to see so far. I have, with great trepidation, ventured into the realm of the master's work... With photoshop (heh, of course) I took the liberty of making a couple of slight changes, if you don't mind. Can you see the differences? It's in the lighting around the bridge of the nose and the upper lip, then the darkness of the eyes--altered almost unnoticeably, but lightened just a bit.

(heh, I really hope you don't mind)

Eek, my bad, not the upper lip; the upper portion of the lower lip, even though the outline across the top of the upper lip has been lightened also.

Oh I don't mind at all. It helps me so much, which is another reason why I post the progress, so that I won't make a mess outta something that I can't fix without starting over. I have literally spent twenty hours on a piece and just totally screwed it up before. When I do my work, I have to periodically take breaks and come back to see what needs fixin'. I can't see it while I'm working. I can see the changes that you made and they make sense to me. Fortunatelly the lighting is something that can be fixed fairly easily. As far as her eyes go, the scan cheated me on that one. In the actual picture, you can see a faint glare in her eyes, which gives the impression that she is staring you down at whatever angle, haha. Thanks again!

You're welcome. She is very beautiful.
I have a tendency to overwork a project, getting too familiar with its appearance. Sometimes, worst case scenario, I've had to back away from something for months. I haven't tried to do anything within the last few years, unfortunately--and I can easily say I haven't dared try to do the type of work you do--but I do understand what happens sometimes.

Somehow, though, between three moves within the last five years, roughly twenty years' worth of artwork has disappeared. I think I've only three pieces left, so I haven't much to show for what I've done. No biggie, though. I see it as an excuse to break away from old forms now. At first, it was tough to deal with. Ho-hum ;)
