RED DEMONS AND YELLOW PSYCHICS: COLOR ASSOCIATIONS AND THEIR ROLE IN SPN’S VISUAL LANGUAGE PART I

Sep 06, 2007 23:56

More color crazy SPN meta.  OMG.  Someone.  Stop.  Me.

Light and color are the most basic and powerful elements in visual storytelling. Television shows employ certain lighting techniques and/or repeat specific color combinations to create a signature style that eases viewers into a visual comfort zone. Light and color also contribute to the mood ( Read more... )

Holy crap.

Just...

:0

You've got an incredible brain.

I don't even have the *slightest* clue how I found this post...I've been wandering and browsing, and happened upon this, and I'm so glad I did.

I've read a few minor comments/notes in stories or comments that mentioned red, and I couldn't figure out why.

Now I know.

And, boy, do I *know*!

'Cause you're incredible at writing a persuasive essay. (Yeah, English Lit and Composition were favorite classes of mine...so sue me! *grins*)

You've covered all the points and provided so much compelling evidence. And, wow!

I'm totally a believer. Because there *is* so much that could be colors other than red or yellow. And I can tell that just from the clips/pics that you've included in this post. I can't even imagine how much more I'll see when I watch the entire series, again (which will be oh-so-painful, of course! *winks*)

I almost can't believe that I never noticed it, before, except for the fact that I can. See, I'm not exactly the most observant of people. I don't pick up on the visual details.

Even when I really *try*, I can't seem to take note of details. Just this summer, a creepy high guy came to my sister's door while I was home with her baby, and he was really weird, and I kept thinking, "Note every detail. Hair color/style/length, clothing, facial features." What could I remember? An approximate height. That's it. I *suck*! Luckily, it turned out to be nothing, but it *did* reinforce my belief that I'd better never be the victim/witness of a crime, because I'll be *absolutely* no help at all!

Anyway, I never noticed the red/yellow overtones, but now I'm sure I'll be incapable of missing them. Some. I'm sure I'll miss a lot, but I'm also sure that I'll notice far more than I would have, otherwise.

Of course, there is *one* other powerful reason for why I never noticed them, before.

Jensen Ackles.

That man is just ... gorgeous. And so angsty and protective and pained. Yum. He hits all my buttons.

So I watch an older episode with a plan to notice something, like "Does Dean *always* take the bed furthest from the door?" or "Will he call Sam 'Sammy' in this ep?" and I get sidetracked by Jensen Ackles in all his Ackles-ness.

Because the Ackles-ness is all-encompassing.

*shakes self*

Sorry. *wipes drool*

Okay. =D

I really appreciated this post, and I'm off to bed, now.

Thank you for alerting another unobservant fan to the red/yellow overtones.

Edited to add...Just had to grin, because I forgot to say, guess what my two favorite colors have always been?

Yep!

Red and Yellow!

My first favorite color was red, a bright, bright red, until I was seven. Suddenly, it changed to yellow, and it's been yellow ever since (which is a lot longer ago than I'd like to think). But it can't be just any yellow. I'm very picky on my yellow. It has to be a very strong, very bright yellow. Sunshiny.

=D

I know!

I also have always favorited clothes that combine red and yellow.

*evil grin*

Thank you for your kind words and enthusiam. I'm glad you stumbled over this post as well. Sometimes jumping into the rabbit hole that is LJ can yield interesting results. :)

I've read a few minor comments/notes in stories or comments that mentioned red

Really, do you recall where the comments were made? *is blown away*

Even when I really *try*, I can't seem to take note of details.

Heh. I'm one of those detail-oriented people who fixate on the little things in order to see the big picture. According to the "get lost in the trees by loosing sight of the forest" metaphor, I'd hypothetically be the one standing at the base of the biggest tree with my nose implanted in its trunk. ;)

Because the Ackles-ness is all-encompassing.

LOL. Yeah, it's easy to get distracted by The Pretty, isn't it? I have to admit the reason I started watching SPN was because it was "visually pleasing" and the actor chemistry. I ... uh ... thought the tension was not brotherly so to speak *laughs*, and it very much reminded me of Scully and Mulder's repressed UST. Imagine my suprise when I discovered they were BROTHERS. Doh.

I also have always favorited clothes that combine red and yellow.

That's awesome and so very demonesque. Perhaps you were "destined" to be an SPN fan since you learned your colors. Next you'll be telling me that you've been a demon for Halloween since the age of three. ;)

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts. It's nice to know when someone reads these meta.
