It's been a while

I need to post more often. I know I've said that before, but I really do. Everyone on here that I read posts daily. I just have a dull life that I don't need to post every day. Even if it's a dull life, I like it.

Last night was the last night of training for Brutus. I was so proud of him. This dog is such a handful...well, for me he is. At training classes, he had to learn to sit, lay down, sit and stay, lay down and stay, come when called, and other little things that the trainer told us. In order to graduate, the dogs had to perform 5 things that were taught. Then, they had to do a trick that we had taught them ourselves. When we were told that, I thought "Cool! I'll show them Brutus shaking hands/paw." Well, I got to thinking that "shake" was one of the things on the training sheets we got every night. So I had to do some searching online to see what I could teach him in less than a week. I found "play dead". So last Wednesday, I started teaching him "play dead". Twice a day for about 5 days. I was so worried he wouldn't do it. There were times when we were doing training that he wouldn't "play dead". So the time came last night. And he DID it!! I was soooooo relieved! And after he did it, the trainer was impressed when I told her that he started learning it Wednesday. So my puppy has passed his first phase of training. Now my Monday nights are free again. Like I have anything to do on Monday nights.

I got home from Marathon 2 days after the big wind storm that hit the area. And yes, it was the remenants of hurricane Ike. They said gusts got up to almost 80 mph around here. We lucked out in our little neighborhood. We had power the entire time. But we lost cable. Well, except for about 4-5 houses at the end of the street. They had no power. And this includes the "mansion". (Mansion is a house built on 2 lots in this area. And it's owned by the woman that owns the fireworks shop in town. Kinda dumb since Ohio bans fireworks. Go fig!) Luckily, Adam's tv is not on cable. So I made him carry it down and hook his antenna up so we could have tv to watch. It was kind of "primitive" to only have regular tv channels. But we had tv. As for going online, we had to go dial up. It wasn't too bad. I had to use Al's AOL account because that's the only account that we pay for. (Free AOL gives you NO dial up access) And after about 4 days of using my name on there, he got email from AOL saying that I used up all the dial up time on that account. Oops! Oh well. After cable came back on, it took a couple of days before it went out again. More on that later. Back to the storm. There were estimated over 300,000 people in this area without power. Slowly power was restored around the city. It took DP&L about a week to get almost everyone back on line. I felt sorry for everyone without power. Then those that didn't have power kept bitching about DP&L not getting them power sooner. C'mon folks. 300,000 people and you think you're more important than everyone else. Plus having to find where all the lines were down. Lots of them were in back yards of people. I do think DP&L should've put all people with medical problems on high priority. Also put all the retirement homes and rest homes on priority, like they do with hospitals and stuff like that. Some old people protested on the street. DP&L got their power back within a couple of hours. Of course DP&L will probably raise our rates to cover the cost of all the overtime that was spent. That's ok. They need to pay these guys for all the hard work they did. Some of them worked 20 hrs a day.

As for Time Warner, I have given up on them. We never had major problems with them before Ike hit. After we got cable back, a couple days later, it went out. After Ike hit, a representative of AT&T came to the door to sell me their U-verse package. (cable, internet, phone...we are already AT&T phone people) I told the guy I'd have to talk it over with the hubby. He said he'd come back. Well, within the week, cable went out a couple more times. The rep showed up about a week later when our cable was out, again. I told him it was out again and to go ahead and sign us up. It was installed this past Sunday. (Yeah, Sunday. Shocked me!) Now I have to learn new cable channels. And internet is supposed to be about 4 times faster than Roadrunner. Well, AT&T went out yesterday around 9:15 AM. Which means no phone, tv or internet. So I called them on my cell. I was on hold for a tech for about 40 minutes. Then I was on with a tech for about 30 minutes. After fiddling with the box (that sounds kinky, doesn't it?), we couldn't get anything to work. So I had to make an appointment for someone to come out. First available? Wednesday between 12 & 2. Two days with no phone, cable or internet. It had to be done. So I fired up the little tv I bought to watch tv and loaded a new game on this toy. I finally went to the garage to start cleaning out pumpkins to carve. Adam went to get a haircut. When he got home, I came into the house. He said the cable was back on. So it must've come on around 3. I will call to cancel the appointment in a few minutes. Hope I don't have to call them again. I know this system is new to the area, and there will be bugs to figure out. Patience, Cindy.

My niece wrote to me the other day. She and her husband of 3 years are splitting up. They have a darling little girl together that will be 2 in December. She didn't go into detail of what went wrong, but I can read between the lines. I think he cheated on her. She didn't deserve that. She said she's embarassed. I told her there's no reason to be. I told her I love her and that she knows she can talk to me if she needs to talk. Poor thing...sigh...

So now today is carving the cleaned out pumpkins. I should get a move on I have 6 of them to do. Plus go get the dog some rawhide to chew. Plus go to the post office. Plus decorate outside for Beggar's night. And here I sit. Priorities! :)
