As a member of human race, this is one of those posts I just have to make.
I finished watching
"Rome" two days ago, and by God I was so fascinated by adult Octavian. Not just because he was such a interesting character in a very TWISTED way, but also because the actor who portrayed him was strangely HOT.
Let me introduce
Simon Woods:
Some of you might remember him as Mr Bingley from
Pride & Prejudice (2005). I adored him in that film, but it wasn't until I saw him as Octavian that I was compelled to look him up. Weirdly there was barely no personal details about him on
IMDB and
Wikipedia, not even his birth date.
I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that he used to have a serious girlfriend but now is publicly in a relationship with a man.
That's right, after ten minutes of researching, I found out he's gay (or at least bi). I was skeptical at first because I knew he had a serious girlfriend at one time and this was just some random comment on IMDB. So I googled and, sure enough, found a legit source that confirmed said comment. Naturally I was shocked, and then I was happy -- happy for him, proud of him even -- and then a little bit hopeful.
Simon as Octavian in "Rome"
(I don't think I'm the only one wishing his character was gay in the series.)
Didn't he look yummy in Pride and Prejudice?
The girl on the left, Rosamund Pike, is actually his ex-girlfriend of two years.
They filmed P&P years after breaking up, playing each other's love interest. With her then boyfriend, Joe Wright, being the film's director, I'm sure that was an interesting experience for both of them.
On Rosamund and her relationship with Simon:
"Her love life seems to have been unlucky. Her previous boyfriend, actor Simon Woods, whom she met at Oxford and went out with for two years, turned out to be gay - he is now with Christopher Bailey, the creative director of Burberry." --
May 2009, Guardian.co.uk Simon and Rosamund:
Simon is now in with Christopher Bailey, a fashion designer and creative director of Burberry.
Simon and Christopher:
Isn't this making you smile a little?
I'm not gonna say that being British makes coming out easier. Rupert Everett himself said informing the world of his sexuality almost ruined his acting career. I think what I'm trying to say is that there are a LOT of excuses to stay in the closet, most of them understandable and should be respected; but if having a full and happy life is what we're all eventually looking for, wouldn't that be the best excuse to stop pretending?
I'm sure this isn't news since I'm usually the last to know about these things, but like I said, this is just the kind of story I feel obligated to share. ♥
