Dissipation
I am finding the variety of social networking tools now available tends to decrease my participation. You would think the other way around -- the more the more -- but it is the opposite. Instead of Livejournal only, as it was for several years, now there is Facebook and Twitter and Blogspot and Vox and Dreamwidth and so on. Like meeting your friends at the local pub, but then they open four more pubs, so your friends are spread more thin. Like getting an e-book with 30 books on it to replace the paper book which is just one book, and so I start more books and finish none. Sometimes I wish the world had a little less choice and a little more convivial gathering.
