So, first off, woot-woot Obama '08 YES WE CAN!
I'm slightly ashamed at how giddy the sad, white faces of the dejected McCain supporters made me. Poor, sad, upper-middle class Republicans. Welcome to my 8 year nightmare.
So Tuesday night I'm driving home, floating, and rushing so I can make it in time to watch my man's speech. I also need to pin down my roommate while she's home to tell her I'm moving at the end of the month. A little background here - my roommate is Christian, but the kind of Christian who has premarital sex, goes to the bar 5 nights a week, and is generally accepting of things like homosexuality and whatnot. You know the type.
*Travis walks into the house, notices his roommate is a.) at home, and b.) in bed reading. Travis knocks on the opened door and walks in, sits on the bed*
Travis, noticing the opened bible in his roommate's lap: Hey, doing some bible study?
Roomie: Yeah
Travis, un-sarcastically, because he's generally supportive of any kind of earnest religious study: Good job!
R: Obama won.
T: Yeah, I know.
R, paraphrased from memory: The end is coming, he meets all the criteria.
T, looking down and noticing the bible is opened to Revelations, mouth open in shock: Uhh.. we'll have to agree to disagree
R: Oh, absolutely!
T: So anyway, I need to talk to you.. I'm moving.
I was absolutely flabbergasted. Since when does pre-marital sex and drinking make one a biblical scholar? And furthermore, who the hell does she think I voted for? Was she expecting me to say "Oh yeah, we're totally in for it!" She took the wind out of my sails. I really don't care what opinions people have, but I wish people would have the decency to keep things to themselves sometimes. She was so completely ugly to me in that moment, the smug look of certainty on her face. Blech.
