Christmas Spirit

I haven't been feeling the Christmas spirit even though I've already purchased all my gifts for my family. At work I had to think of arts and crafts projects to do with the kids since school is now closed and I got my inspiration from a JC Penny or Kmart commercial (not sure which of the 2 it was). Doing this project with the kids did bring back a bit of the Christmas spirit for me but it's still not at 50%. The project I did with the kids was an ornament tree ornament tree mobile, an ornament tree and hanging ornaments. The kids had fun doing it, I got burnt by the glue gun and the home got decorated in time for the kids party. so  here they are.

1. Hanging ornaments.
Materitals: Christmas ornaments (any size shape, design and colour would do. I only had balls so that's what I used); string /fishing line/ jewelry string; ribbon; twigs/ PBC pipe (any long slim object u can hang stuff from would do. I used twigs because they were in my back yard and costless.)

DIY: This a straight forward project to undertake with young kids(3-10 yrs old). Hang ornaments using string, ribbon or fishing line at varying lengths from the stick, twig or pipe etc. IF you see it fit cover the stick or pipe etc with glittered ribbon and hang it in a window or against a wall.

2. Ornament tree
Materials: Christmas ball ornaments(remove the tops/hooks), glue gun, ribbons. a bowl .

DIY: Use the bowl to be able to get a circle for the bottom row. Glue balls to each other (not the bowl) with the top part(hook parts) facing inward. once the bottom row is complete remove the bowl and start the second row on top the bottom row but between the balls(crack bw the balls). Each row should have less than the row before and should tilt inward to give the tree a cone shape. The children (ages 7-15) did the one below and decided it looked naked so they embellished it with bows and ribbons. This tree is used as the table's center piece.

3. Ornament Tree Mobile
Materials: 75-100 christmas ball ornaments, string/fishing line, hooks and chains, steamer rack

DIY: I got instructions on how to do this here http://www.notmartha.org/archives/2010/12/21/christmas-tree-ornament-mobile-how-to/
Note that i did substitute the steamer rack with the top cover of an old fan, the jewelry sting and hooks with plain string that i tied to the fan cover. I did not have any of the hook and chains required from the site and I only had 80 balls instead of the 100 recommended on the site but i made do aside from that i followed the measurement instructions to the T.

So there u have it. My Christmas arts and crafts projects that i did with the kids. They all enjoyed it and the only one who sustained and injury was me, go figure the biggest kid in the room. :D. I'm really proud of the ornament tree mobile, the pic does not do it justice of how pretty it is. Plus if you're lucky like me get balls u can string Christmas lights through to give it an extra stunning effect.
