BPAL reviews again

Not as fluent or hilarious as Lupie's, because I don't have the nose for these that he does.

Anyway. Tried Hymn, Penitence and Leanan Sidhe over the holiday. Will try them again later to see if they fit with what I remember.

* Hymn smelt almost overpowering violet-y, and got washed off quickly. (I think it was violet - it may have been lily of the valley, the one that turned up in Sea of Glass so strongly.)
* Penitence had mild but noticeable incense notes in there (yay).
* Leanan Sidhe I can't remember very well, other than that it was quite pleasant.

Am now trying more. Perfume summaries added after I tested these, so I don't cheat and go "oh, that's that scent". As it were.

* Grand Guignol: Our Grand Guignol perfume is a shot of sweet apricot brandy; just enough to settle your nerves after a ghoulish, gory brush with the macabre.
- In the bottle had a tang almost like red wine, but it kept coming and going, which was odd.
- On skin, it's milder (I think my skin's swallowing the base notes again), but there's a definite note of something I can't quite identify but that I've not smelt in any perfume before. Something clear but also with a tint of cloyingness (as opposed to the similar-but-not-same note I've smelt in other perfumes, not BPAL ones, which is just somewhat thicker and richer and more cloying).
- After reading the summary: I guess that slightly-cloying smell could be apricot, but it doesn't smell like it to me.

* Shadow Witch Orchid: This perfume is a dusky orchid, subdued and ethereal.
- In the bottle it smelt "perfume-y" in a way I can't describe but reminds me of things like Chanel and stuff (from very vague childhood memory). In any case, my mental image of it is an amber-coloured oil.
- On skin, the "perfume-y" dies down a little and there's a touch of incense in there.
- After reading the summary: ...goodness only knows. This may be one of those perfumes where the blurb is just a guide to how it smells, rather than an actual list of ingredients.
