Lots of you asked about SPR, so I thought I'd introduce you to the usual suspects.
Our fearless leader and manager of Shibuya Psychic Research, Shibuya Kazuya. Mai-chan calls him Naru-chan because he is (she claims) a narcissist. Naru is the scientist of our bunch. He possesses strong psychic abilities, but they take their toll on him physically and he has trouble controlling them. Because of that, he sticks to the science.
Naru's assistant, Lin Koujo, doesn't talk much. He gets stuck with the boring work, like lugging and monitoring equipment. I found this place on his laptop, so he must do something other than work 24/7. Lin doesn't talk much and never displays emotion. I think he's afraid of it. Lin-san's a student of Shibuya-san's father, who asked Lin-san to look after his son when he decided to come to Japan. We thought Lin-san took care of the drudge work, but it turns out he's an onmyoji in his own right and controls several shikigami.
Taniyama Mai is SPR's office assistant. Naru-chan rooked her into free labor when she accidentally knocked over a camera and hurt Lin in the process. Later on he hired her on as gopher and office slave. I can't figure out if he likes her (nah, not Naru-chan) or if he sensed her blossoming psychic powers. Probably the latter. Turns out Mai-chan has prophetic dreams along with a few other skills. She has a huge crush on Naru-chan (as she dubs him). All the ladies fight over that guy. It's a mystery when I'm right there. Oh well. No accounting for taste. Mai's cool. She's like my little sister.
Yasuhara Osamu's a senior in high school. He started helping out after SPR solved the hauntings at his school. He doesn't have any psychic abilities, but he's sharp as a tack and a good worker. He has a great sense of humor. He and I like to freak out the other team members with a little guy on guy flirting. He's a good kid. He applied to Tokyo University. He shouldn't have any problems getting accepted, but I sent them a recommendation letter just in case.
John Brown is one of SPR's consultants. He looks like a kid, but he's a 19 year old ordained Catholic priest who specializes in exorcisms. He's a good kid, effective at what he does. He learned his Japanese in Kyoto. His accented Kansai's hilarious. He uses the wrong phrasing A LOT, which sets us all to laughing.
Hara Masako doesn't need introduction in Japan. She's a spirit medium who has her own TV show. She's the same age as Mai but acts--usually--older. I think she has some dirt on Naru-chan because he doesn't argue with her the way he would with us, even when she makes the same suggestions. Mai-chan and Masako-san have gotten into it a time or two over that guy. Go figure.
Matsuzaki Ayako is a self-styled harpy Shinto miko (priestess). She's not really. She wasn't raised in a shrine. She comes from a wealthy family of doctors. On every single case she claims an earth spirit is the culprit. Her exorcisms never work. Never. Turns out she's only effective around spirit trees. When she is, I have to hand it to her, she's damned effective. She obviously is pining for me, always arguing and throwing herself my way. I'd say she has good taste, but she also has a thing for Naru-chan.
Saving the best for last, that's me, Takigawa Houshou, though almost everyone calls me Bou-san. I'm a Buddhist monk--alright, hakkaisou--from Mt. Koya. Hey, you'd leave, too, if you couldn't listen to music, had to shave your head and give up sex. I'm the guy left in charge when Naru-chan's not around. That's because I know my stuff and I'm effective, which can't always be said for these other people.
Oh yeah. Lost the bet.
