Techno Day

I'm the first to admit I'm not the most techno-savvy person, but, I do go to great lengths to TRY and do things myself. Lately, my tv hasn't been getting the new digital channels; this is odd, because hubby's tv does get them, and the only difference in our sets is he has the 52" version of the model and I have the 46" version. So, I went online to Samsung's website, thinking maybe I needed to upgrade the software on my tv. I found it, but when I found out how to check the version on my set, the version I have is newer than the upgrade at the website so, that wasn't the solution to my problem. I delved further, and found a suggestion to hook my tv up to another cable input (such as the one going into hubby's tv) and if the tv now finds the missing channels, the problem was my cable. Okay, but do I really want to start unplugging everything in my tv and carrying it across the house? No, not really. So, I waited for hubby to come home, and explained my problem. He went and checked my set and - lo and behold - apparently I was using a sound cable as a video cable which was a big no-no. Hubby says "Who would use a crap cable like that for the video?". Um, that would be you dear. Nobody else has touched the wiring on my tv. So, he got a proper video cable, and suddenly all the digital channels were showing up, so yay!

Next problem: upgrading my Blu-Ray player. Until Friday night, I didn't know I had to, or even could, do this. But the new Star Wars Blu-Ray discs wouldn't play on it, so that's when I found out yes indeed, I do have to do this. So, now I have a software upgrade file on a USB drive; all I have to do is plug it in to the player, and hopefully it will be a newer version, and the problem will be solved. I'm taping the season premiere of Two and a Half Men right now, and I don't want to start pulling machines out, so I'll just wait. With my fingers crossed.

So, for a not-so-techno savvy person, I think I did all right. So far. LOL.
