Well I had planned on updating my journal more often, however now that I have internet (but no phone yet....) at home I hope I will be updating this more often, at least a couple of times a week. I also am going to try to upload some newer photos to the New Zealand album, so that I will also have a record of what I've been seeing lately ( Read more... )

"I'm not looking forward to them, but yet I am preparing myself for them already."

I'm not sure you can prepare yourself, I mean mentally you can realize it's going to happen, but until it does I'd say it's really hard to deal with. Then again that may just be my experience, as I thought I was prepared and was fine for the first couple of weeks, and then it really hit me. I'm not sure whether it was getting more permanently settled or just the time that did it.

"In your opinion, what sort of things are the *most* different between NZ and North America (I say NA because I'm Canadian and you're American haha.)"

Hmmm, the most different....Children are raised to be much more independent and self-sufficient. I mean, primary and secondary aged children ride city buses alone or with a friend, children run into stores to grab items for their parents or run errands for them. I've found that to be the most striking change. They are encouraged to explore more and do things independently. I found that really refreshing.

Other than that, I've just found as a result, in the job environment, managers are more trusting and cooperative with you. They are more likely to trust you with tasks and trust you will be able to finish what needs to be done. It doesn't seem as supervisory, at least it what I've experienced so far. It's also much more laid back and casual, which is pretty generally acknowledged as part of Kiwi culture, as I understand.

So where in NZ will you be going, or do you know yet? If it's Welly make sure to drop me a line!!!! later, bn.
