So I was at Ingles today, getting gas, and this very well-dressed woman comes up to me.
Lady: Excuse me? Hey.
Me: Hey...
Lady: Is there a shopping center around here somewhere?
Me: Umm, well what are you looking for?
Lady: Well I don't know. I was at the university, and they told to come this way.
Me: The Bi-Lo shopping center is back that way...on the right...
Lady: Are there a lot of stores there?
Me: No.
Lady: Well they told me if I came this way there would be shopping.
Me: *laughs* Well....
Lady: Do you have like a Target or anything?
Me: No, we don't have Target. But we have a Walmart. You just take that road over there all the way until it ends and then make a right and you'll see it.
Lady: There's just a Walmart? Nothing else?
Me: That's all.
Lady: Do you have a mall?
Me: *laughs* Nope.
Lady: Well where do you go shopping?
Me: Well, at the mall. But it's not right around here. It's about 30 minutes away.
Lady: *looks rather distraught* ...oh...okay....well, thank you.

I really never realized it was that bad until I had that conversation. I mean, I know you have to go to Anderson for pretty much everything. But I just...I don't know. I guess I've learned to live without things that can't be gotten at Walmart, so I just don't think about it. But now that I think about it, it really is crazy. How do I live here?
