Rating PG; a single instance of v. mild swearing, and Paru.
Notes This is technically a sonfic, and possibly the second time I've ever written one. the song is, for those playing at home, "World is Mine: Another Side" by KAITO.
Also, this is Mark's fault.
It had been Paru’s idea to go out for karaoke, and when Paru was involved, there really was no saying no. It was a small group; the three of them, Aki, and somehow Marina and Minato had just…turned up (Yue just thought it better not to question what went on concerning those to, it was best for her sanity), but it was still a good amount of fun. For her part, Yue preferred listening. Singing was just embarrassing and it seemed like every .song this place had was a love song, so she just watched.
She knew Paru hadn’t had a hand in what happened next, because she’d been trying to convince her that a.) she didn’t need to be in a maid costume right now, thank you, and b.) no, she had not grown in cup size and Paru certainly didn’t need to check. And while that had been happening, Alejandro had chosen a song and gotten up to sing. She hadn’t noticed until he started singing. It wasn’t an unpleasant sound, but the song he chose made her freeze completely.
”The number one princess in this world…I know that, so you are my bride!”
Yue knew the song, naturally-she was a fan of the Vocaloids in general, and Kaito in particular, and this one was one of his most popular. But Alejandro singing it…did he even realized how that seemed?! It didn’t help that Paru kept elbowing her in the ribs. Or when the boy turned and was, well, singing at her by all appearances.
”First thing, did you get a haircut? Let me praise you for that~ Second thing, that’s a new pair of shoes…they look good! Third thing, to your one word, there’s nothing more to add, right? Now then…our hands are empty, so shall we hold hands?”
Yue buried her face in her hands. She could feel her ears burning at this point. He had to realize what he was singing, right? Right? Paru just leaned over, whispering in her ear.
“Heyyy, seems like he’s a romantic~ Yuecchi’s so lucky!” With friends like these, Yue didn’t think she’d ever need enemies. Still, she couldn’t help looking up again, with half a mind to ask Alejandro what the hell he was doing, and was stopped dead in her tracks by accidentally making eye-contact.
”Acting like that, I know you’re just pretending to be tough…so don’t worry about it~ You are as cute today as you are any other day.”
…If he knew what it meant, was he really singing it to her? That made Yue blush a little bit more, sinking lower into her seat. But…but then…what was she supposed to do?
”The Number one princess in the world…Any requests? OK, OK. I’ll be there in a minute, so don’t miss me so much…”
“…Alejandro…” She was pretty sure he didn’t hear her, but she wasn’t sure how much more of this she could take. It was too embarrassing.
”Who do you think I am? I am your knight! (Hold that, I know), your pudding is in the refridgerator~”
Paru was giggling at this point, and Yue just sort of looked away. It was annoying, especially the fact that her heart was racing so fast she thought it might burst. But she couldn’t move away…the colors of it were too strong (she wondered a little, if her own feelings colored how she saw things) and she couldn’t get up.
”Complaint, giving words too, they won’t do a thing. That’s all she has…Oh! What was that dress she wanted…? What’s that? A white horse? It can’t be helped. Let me take your hand-A merry-go-round; will you take this for now, please, My Princess?”
“…Izumi-san, you’re really very red, are you alright?” Oh, great. Now Minato had noticed. Yue naturally turned a bit redder before huffing, looking rather annoyed at the question.
“I’m fine. There’s not need to worry about me.”
“Aa…maybe I should get you something to drink.” The way he smile, fond and almost paternal, made Yue dead certain Minato somehow knew. She had to wonder if anyone didn’t, now.
“That’s…”
“I’ll be right back, then.” And off he went, leaving her to this. Yue decided she needed new friends.
”Acting like that, I know you’re just pretending to be tough…Well. If you say that much, I’ll poke you two or three times, OK?”
It was only a small consolation that Alejandro did really seem to be having fun doing this…although the more he got into it, the more embarrassed Yue got. People could see this…people could hear this! The rumors about them were already bad enough! Aki tilted her head at Yue, before scribbling on a whiteboard she’d brought with her, and then standing up.
“I will return shortly.” She’d been off before Yue could even ask why she was leaving, which made her almost suspect they were deliberately trying to leave her alone with Alejandro. She definitely needed new friends.
”Your own prince in this world~ It’s out of my character though… It’s not bad, actually. You are beloved this much…Someday, look. I believe that you will realize it.”
At this point, Yue was no longer sure if she preferred it if he didn’t know how this seemed. On the one hand, it didn’t bode well for his observation skills. On the other had, if she got any redder, she’d probably pass out from all the blood rushing to her face. Marina leaned over the table to peer at her, before giggling.
“You look like you need to cool down…wait here, I’ll go get you some ice.” And now she had left too. They were doing this on purpose. They had to be. Yue nearly facepalmed at the ridiculousness of it all. Her life was a goddamn mess.
”…About you? …Everything about you? I don’t understand it. I guess I never will…A shortcake with strawberry on top, pudding made only with the best ingredients~Left untouched in the fridge…This one’s giving me a sign.”
Paru snickered and stretched a bit, sending a cold shock of apprehension down Yue’s spine. She was going to leave too, wasn’t she?
“Paru-“
“Hey now, don’t look like that. I’ll be back before you know it~” She was off towards the bathrooms before Yue could protest further…leaving her alone with Alejandro. That was it, she decided. Her friends were all pure evil.
”Yes, you can do it if you try, So I’ll be prepared…” Prepared for what, she had to wonder? Proper behavior was the answer, she knew from Miku’s side, but seriously. What did that even mean in this situation. Yue wasn’t sure where to look. She couldn’t look directly at him without feeling like she might burst into flames, so she settled for looking at her knees. They were nice. Safe. Very boring and un-embarrassing.
”Of course! Because you are my own princess in the world. I’ll be sure to watch you, so you don’t need to go anywhere. At times, by your side I’ll hold you gently; ‘You’ll get run over. It’s dangerous.’ It’s a bit embarrassing-“
No, you think? Yue thought dryly, making the mistake of looking up and making that dreaded eye contact again.
”So I’m covering it up, but…you’re rather attracted to that me, right?”
She sat there, bright red and steadfastly looking down at Alejandro’s feet as the final chords died out, searching for words.
“…Alejandro, what was that.”
“Ah? Was I off-key?”
“No, but-“
”So it was alright?” Yue start at him, exasperated and helpless. She just couldn’t win, could she? He’d leaned over her, looking at her curiously, almost a bit concerned. She couldn’t help herself, leaning forward a bit with a somewhat sardonic expression on her face.
“You know, Alejandro-“ Her sentence was cut off by the sudden bright flash of a camera. Alejandro had immediately jerked back at the light, and so Yue shot straight up, growling.
“PARU.” The only response was laughter, and Yue was certain, as she vaulted the couch to get to the movie star, that she really needed better friends.
And a fiancé who kept the embarrassing singing in private would be nice, too.
please don't kill me.
