You are all aware of a man called Zimbardo? Some years ago, in my world, he performed a test of perfect simplicity. Average students assigned roles of 'prisoners' and 'guards' spent just under one week playing out their roles in a makeshift prison. The results were better than expected. Prisoners revolted, rioted and spoke of escape while the guards became hungry on the power, removing basic rights and performing simple methods of torture to further elevate their own role.

It would not be a stretch of the imagination to suggest we have got the same happening upon this barge.
