I got this from school and we all know how spiritual(and whatnot) i am(ha) but for some reason i really liked this:

Have you ever thought about the differences between pleasure and joy?

To me, pleasure seems to be more physical and more fleeting; whereas joy seems to be more spiritual and more lasting. Pleasure can't begin to take you anywhere near the depths or dimensions that the experience of joy that can take you.

So what do you see when you look around and observe life? What I see and observe is folks settling for pleasure and letting joy pass right on by. The folks who let joy pass by seem to be in love with new cars, large houses, numerous possessions, alcohol, drugs, sex, instant gratification, status, power, perceived self-importance...and the list goes on.

Folks who manage to experience joy seem to cherish family, friends, faith, spirituality, morals, values..etc.

Pleasure tends to become an addiction. What do you suppose it is driven by? Fear? Insecurity? Do folks truly believe that the accumulation of wealth and possessions will bring security and comfort? Are they hoping these pleasures will distract them from what they lack inside? Will these pleasures heal them?

Perhaps they're fooled into thinking they have fulfillment. Infinite joy is offered, it's all around us, it's right in front of us. Why is it so often ignored?

There is an infinite depth within each of us, why is it squandered away on meaningless, short-lived pleasures? What if we spent our entire life climbing the proverbial ladder to "success" and when we got to the top, we found that we had the ladder leaning against the wrong building?? It would be too late.
