I don't want to give people money to make lean pork chops

That doesn't make me hungry

I'm not saying you shouldn't eat meat or animal products, just get it from somewhere that treats their animals like animals, like www.southmountaincreamery.com

PS.  I converted a Steve!  And I didn't have to use my vagina!  (Directly, anyway ...)

You know what's even more disturbing about the Mad Cow Disease? An anthropologist studying a bizarre ritual of the people of New Guinea during which the boys would eat the brains of their grandfathers (sounds a lot like what they do to cows, eh?) found that they developed many neurological problems. This was years ago (I think in the 50's or 60's). So despite all the evidence that cannibalism is neither natural nor healthy, they continued to feed cows that way.

More than anything, I'm worried about my health when I look at the food available. The fact that they're not only unhealthy (and in some rare cases fatal); but that they're marketed as being a healthy source of food. I mean, the amount of misinformation about food is un-fucking-believable. Take this add I saw about margarine in some magazine the other day: "HALF THE FAT OF BUTTER AND ZERO CHOLESTEROL! LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST!" NO! Margarine is fucking plastic. It's gray when it's manufactured and colored yellow - to look like butter. JUST FUCKING EAT BUTTER! Saturated fat is good for you, and there is such a thing as good cholesterol (psst - it's found in butter). Same with white bread. Fuck white bread.

I'm not trying to blame the consumer (though some of them are probably lazy or apathetic); I'm blaming the companies who don't want to lose their brands, and those who don't want to take responsibility for owning up to the fact that they've created a monster.

I don't think we can blame one without blaming the other...

Corporations are the monsters, but consumers feed them. The info is out there, people just don't what to admit what they're supporting... or change their behavior to stop supporting it.
