I've a sudden and insurmountable urge for McCoy fic with a good dose of futuristic medical science. We've established my geekishness before, let's not beat that horse further. Seriously, though. I realise the fandom for the new film will not have the same level of technological geekiness as the original fandom, but there have to be a few scientists lurking about somewhere? I think I've seen the odd referral to physics: pleasant when I see it, but far surpassing my own knowledge. (Astrophysics fascinates me, but in a way I know I'll never understand: fuck you, dyscalculia.) But where's all the sickbay fic? Where are the pharmaceuticals, the vaccinations*, gene therapy, robo-surgery, RNAi therapeutics, stem cell technology, personalised medicine, genetic engineering, nanoparticles? Surely there's a few biologists out there - or, at least, people with a healthy interest in medical advancement?
I realise the answer to this question is a brusque "write it your damn self, Uko" but if it were only so easy. Besides, it's my journal, I'll be as entitled as I damn please.
(*Okay, so due to the intrinsic comedy of hypospray and Jim Kirk's allergies, vaccination does come up a fair bit. But I really feel as I should point out: vaccines are preventative, not curative. If you've already got the damn disease they're going to do nothing except perhaps exacerbate the problem. Off the top of my head there are some exceptions - those diseases like rabies that go into a state of latency post-infection before they actually get round to, you know, killing you. But unless you tell me this I'm just going to wince at the bad science.)
So essentially this post boils down to "STAR TREK FANDOM: NEEDS MORE NERDS." Lol whut?
fandom: star trek,
interest: biomedical science,
interest: medicine
