I'm kinda the opposite. I just can't seem to ship Kelley, I don't know because I love him like mad.

But when I ship Kirk/McCoy I see Pine!Kirk and Urban!McCoy, but when I ship Kirk/Spock it's Shatner/Nimoy. Perhaps not as weird as your cross-gen ship, but I find it weird enough for me.

It's not that I ship him as such... I just see his face, or his facial expressions at least. It's weird. It's almost like a mix of the two actors I see? This became troublesome when I was trying to make my Bones!Sim and realised I didn't know what colour eyes I wanted him to have. But it is the nu!characters that I am pairing off, not TOS, because I don't see it in TOS but I do see it in the movie. It's just like Kelley has a... dominant face? Or something?

He has a very memorable face! It's very... deliberate, like someone's taken time into making it. I love it.
