About Robin's Nest

Dec 28, 2007 20:14

Since I know at least one person is interested in this information (and welcome to my journal, hoppytoad79!), I am going to post about adopting from Robin's Nest.

Requirements:
You must agree to
- keep the cat indoors
- never declaw the cat
- surrender the cat to Robin's Nest if you no longer want it, instead of dumping it at the shelter

You need either two or three references (I can't remember which), one of which is your vet.

The application asks whether you own your own home; if not, you need to have an apartment that allows cats.

The application asks what has happened to previous pets. If they were left at a shelter, killed by going outside (road kill, coyotes, evil humans), or otherwise weren't responsibly cared for, they won't allow you to adopt. Note that this refers to pets that you have had as an adult; childhood pets that didn't get responsible care are the fault of your parents/guardians.

Yes, people can lie on the applications, but volunteers doing the adoption clinics are allowed to go with a gut feeling and put off an adoption until references can be checked.

There is an $80.00 adoption fee.

In return, you will be adopting a cat who has:
- been spayed or neutered. No cats are adopted until they are spayed or neutered.
- been vaccinated for Feline Leukemia, Distemper, and Rabies
- been de-wormed
- been treated for fleas
- received treatment for any health concerns, such as URIs or other problems
- been handled and socialized. Feral cats are not adopted out; they are cared for at "The Nest" for their whole lives.
- possibly been lovingly fostered by someone who treated him or her like their own

You are also permitted to bring the cat back to the rescue at any time, for any reason--even if it has been ten years since the adoption--if you can no longer keep him or her. It is a no-kill rescue.
