I'm also going to respond to this:
http://community.livejournal.com/vegetarian/4396192.html?thread=63079072#t63079072 happycycling did not "call me out for being a jackass". She and another commenter were doggedly insisting that a specific and legitimate sexual orientation was "abnormal", and that people of that orientation should get medical attention and "have their hormones checked". I disagreed, and expressed the opinion that pathologizing someone's sexual orientation was a cruel thing to do, and that, regardless of whether you believe their sexual orientation is the result of a medical problem, it's invasive and rude to tell them that. Someone of that orientation had expressed later in that journal how they felt about being regarded as a medical curiosity by others instead of a person; I told that person that I was sorry that they had been spoken about as such, and that I couldn't imagine how it would feel for strangers to talk about my being "abnormal" like that. happycycling, being both clueless and rude, replied to my comment saying "what's so bad about having an abnormality?" I didn't reply to that, because it reflected an ignorance and insensitivity that no amount of explanation could overcome.
So she can go and fuck herself.
