SO, BORN THIS WAY. It's all kind of cheesy and embarrassing and the spoken intro makes me want to stab myself in the face, BUT I STILL KIND OF LOVE IT? It's no Bad Romance, that's for sure, and I'll be disappointed if there aren't better songs on the album, but IDK, it's kind of irresistable. What does everyone else think ( Read more... )

I'm still making my mind up, I think. I definitely like it, but I'm not blown away - although this might just be your standard "nothing could've lived up to that amount of hype" situation, of course. Like you say, I hope there are better tracks on the album, but I'm happy enough with it.

Glad your interview went well this morning - fingers crossed for good news!

Yeah, it's definitely not as all-conqueringly amazing as I was hoping it would be; it's fun and catchy, but it feels a bit disposable.

Thanks! Unfortunately I'm not going to find out whether I've got the job for over a WEEK.

Have just gone to her website for a second listen. It's definitely growing on me. Now that I think about it, I was quite resistant to Gaga initially and most of her songs took a while to get into my brain, so maybe it's just a hangover from that? ('Telephone' notwithstanding, because the amazingness of that song was evident from the outset.)

Ugh, how horrible! The waiting is the hardest part, as the song says. I'll keep my fingers crossed all the same!

I think 'Born This Way' is sort of alright, but it's no 'Bad Romance' or 'Poker Face' or anything like that. I think Gaga doesn't really sound like herself here -- someone compared her to sounding too much like Madonna and I agree.

Yay, interview! Go team you!

Yeah, it's definitely a different sound for her and the Madonna similiarities are really overt. (Express Yourself was trending on Twitter because of this song, lol.) I think for this album she really needs to create her own sound, and I'm hoping that's what we'll get with the other tracks because this song is a bit derivative. But I still really enjoy BTW, probably because I grew up on a diet on cheesy 90s pop.

Yeah, it's definitely a song to listen to, but it's not gonna be in my top five. Hopefully the rest of the album blows me away. (The problem with BTW I think is that she's trying too hard to appeal to the ~gay community~ and it feels almost condescending.)

Yeah, I see that. I think she's totally sincere in support of the gay community but it definitely sounds like she was trying to write a GAY SONG FOR GAYS. And that sort of feels like erasure of a large part of the LGBT community, because these kind of "gay anthems" are always specifically geared towards gay men. (Obviously I'm generalising hugely about the sort of music that appeals to different people, but you know what I mean.)

I AGREE.

Radio 1 played it twice in a row and by the second time I found it awesome.

Bad Romance is like a different standard though but I don't care just coz it's her and she's ace.

Don't be a drag just be a queen is still my favourite part :D

I've listened to it about twenty times now and yeah, it's fucking awesome. It's SO catchy! Possibly it could get annoying really quickly but right now I'm loving it. :D

Yeah, the intro is just wtf. But the gay in me, and clearly the crack addict in me LOVES IT. I'm lying in bed groving to this. I want to drive around with this playing REALLY LOUD. It's a shame this came out before Pride here! Holy shit, Sydney gay Mardi Gras. Wow, this is just going to be on repeat.

Honestly, I'm loving it. I'm seeing her in Boston in a month OMG OMG OMG and now I am even more pumped. It's so ridiculously Queer As Folk, I feel like it's kind of Madonna remixed for Babylon, but that doesn't stop me from dancing. Fuck originality, this is just FUN! and I feel like I should have a rainbow flag flying from my car window when I go driving around with this blaring out. Because it's just SO GAY AND I LOVE IT.

In fact, weirdly this feels more gay than Gaga. So fuck it, I'm going with a gay icon!

(Sorry, Gaga gives my capslock overdrive)

OMG, you're so lucky to be seeing her! I bet this song is so much fun live. When I'm not listening to it I keep going, "Hmm, it could be better, it's a bit cheesy and not very original" and then I play the song and it's like, FUCK THAT, LET'S DANCE. \o/
