Weddings, Weddings Everywhere

I finished editing the first wedding of the season and am moving on to the one that I helped shoot a couple weeks ago. The reception was crazy, stuff was so spontaneous, but between Terry and me we managed to get everything on camera, and they're going to have an absolutely awesome video.

So far, my own footage is hit and miss - though I was there for important things and did get a lot of good footage like I said, is't also evident that I need a bit more practice focusing the 7D on the go. Dave has me on a couple shoots with him at the end of the month that will hopefully give me that chance.

I'll also get the chance next weekend. Two weeks ago (ack I never mentioned this), after seeing Avengers and Battleship at the drive-in (Battleship had the expectedly-mediocre first act then got way better than it deserved to be by the third), I got a Facebook message from Matt Nardone (runs NDStudios in - alright, you know, now I'm just inserting parentheticals for the lulz) asking if I could film his wedding.

I'm pretty excited! I'll be using NDStudios gear, including a couple of Canon DSLRs (T1i, I believe), so while they're not the same as the 7D it's still similar enough. All they really wanted was the ceremony and maybe the very important parts near the beginning of the reception, but while I do plan to just mingle and enjoy myself as a guest (I hadn't been previously invited so this works out great in that regard too), I do want to get all of the important parts throughout the night as well as some general footage as well. Again, it's good practice for the Bigler work.

I watched Abstract Messiah again last night. Had to re-render a scene to drop that in (I effed up on an effects layer) but otherwise that movie is finalized. And two and a half years later, I'm looking at it and it renews my desire for some of the Lowell lights we have at Bigler. So many scenes that could have popped a lot more visually. Lessons for next time, I guess.

It's something to bring up this weekend. I'll be in Buffalo; the Buffalo Bisons Star Wars Night baseball game is Saturday night, and I'll be participating in that in my Darth Arjuna costume (Otakon 2010 redux), then the day after is the Falcon & Church greenlight meeting. I'm going to push for at least one Lowell light in the budget, maybe two (one electric and one battery operated, plus a spare battery for it). Though there are LED panel lights out there too, like what we used in Laz Sr.'s studio for Cannibals on the Run. We'll see; I'd prefer warmer light that can then be cooled down with gels rather than the other way around because the light would be primarily used indoors anyway.

Anyway. Gotta do a couple things here (plug in the AM scene, among other things) and then got a car appointment to rotate a more worn tire to the back and check out the shuddering I'm getting during braking, then it's off to Buffalo! Take care, internet!
