It's a stunning afternoon, and I'm inside a local library getting caught up on a few things...and maybe looking at my revision letter for my 2011 book. Egads. Anyway, here are some things I've been up to this week:
1. UNDERLIFE giveaway. Poet
January Gill O'Neil signed a copy of her debut collection for me to give away on the blog, and I'll be announcing the winner--and posting an interview with her--later today. Check in for more details!
2. A visit to Children's Hospital, Boston. A nurse-friend who works there set me up with a Child Life Specialist who hosts a monthly morning show that's broadcast throughout the hospital (and reruns all month long). I was this month's featured guest on the show! Thanks to the
debut2009 jeannineatkins, author
Debbie Duncan and my amazing publicist at Penguin, I had a basket of over 40 books to donate to various resource rooms at the hospital after my interview. I'll share some photos of the day as soon as I find the cord to download my camera, but let me tell you--being in that place, and having a healthy child at home, gives mom-me a LOT of perspective.
3. The aforementioned revision letter. At eight pages, it's a doozy! But I'm excited to make the changes suggested by my awesome editor and know the story will be much stronger for them. This book is extra special to me, because it's backdrop is an extracurricular activity that I participated in for eight years during high school and college: marching band.
4. Blog visits. I've been on tour, didn't ya know? Lately, I've been making the rounds of the blogosphere, talking about THE TOTAL TRAGEDY OF GIRL NAMED HAMLET. I'll be posting a link to all the interviews next week.
5. Enjoying the sunshine. We seriously haven't seen the sun here in Boston since January, and after some pretty epic rainstorms this past weekend, we were due some good weather. It's been in the 60s for the past two days, with bright blue skies and almost no clouds. CC has basically flat-out refused to play inside, which is fine by me. Yesterday, we spent the morning at the park, ate lunch al fresco on our front steps (backyard still too squishy to picnic or play in), took the dog for a walk, and played with friends outside. And tomorrow it's supposed to hit 70! Ahhhhhh....
Hope you have sunshine today, wherever you are!
