So, I took the train to New York on Saturday and met up with eight other authors for a Teen Book Singing Bonanza.
OMG, it was so fun!
I took the subway from Penn Station down to 18th Street, and walked a few blocks over to Books of Wonder. And as I'm strolling along, enjoying the sunshine (I'd almost forgotten what it felt like), I had a major realization:
I was going to sign my book in New York City. My book. In New York City.
I literally had to stop and stand outside the store for a few minutes, absorbing the moment. When I was younger, dreaming of being an author one day, I never even thought that anything like this would ever happen to me. And when I was submitting and revising and waiting and hoping, I couldn't have imagined that one day I'd be sitting at a big table of my colleagues, in Manhattan, talking about my book. It was incredible.
Mandy Hubbard, thank you for putting that together.
To add another level of surreality to the day, Ms. Awesome Editor attended the event. She whisked me away afterwards for a stroll along New York's elevated park, then we grabbed frozen yogurt and chatted some more. I missed having dinner with the other authors, but it was so nice to spend time with Ms. AE.
By 6:30 I was back in Penn Station, carrying a bag filled with signed books. I read Mandy's fun, flirty PRADA AND PREJUDICE on the train home, which I adored, and started Michelle Zink's PROPHECY OF THE SISTERS. It's spooky and delicious.
Can't wait for next year!
